Harley Street Breast Care consults at 146 Harley Street, W1G 7LD, about three miles north of Chelsea. From Sloane Square the Circle line runs to Great Portland Street without a change. A one-stop appointment brings consultation, imaging and, where needed, biopsy and results into the same visit.
Chelsea sits about three miles south-west of Harley Street, which in central London terms means a journey of twenty to twenty-five minutes rather than a trek. Our consulting rooms are at 146 Harley Street, W1G 7LD, and a same-day one-stop breast clinic appointment usually runs sixty to ninety minutes from arrival to the results discussion. For most SW3 and SW10 patients that is a single morning, not a day booked out.
What brings SW3 and SW10 patients in varies more than the postcode suggests. Some have found something themselves and want it dealt with this week. Some are following up a change picked up at a well-woman appointment. Some are here because a plan made at another hospital does not sit comfortably and they want it looked at again. All of those start the same way, with a consultation and imaging on the same visit. All our London locations are listed together if a different part of the city suits you better.
There is no single obvious route from Chelsea, so it is worth choosing deliberately. The Circle line will get you there without changing but takes the scenic way; the Piccadilly line via Green Park is usually quicker; and the 137 bus does it in one go. Chelsea is well served by the NHS: Chelsea and Westminster is on the doorstep and the Royal Marsden is a short distance away. Patients who come to us privately are rarely doing so because they doubt the local service. They come because of how the pathway is put together. A referral, however urgent its category, still arrives as a sequence of separate dates for examination, scanning and results. A one-stop assessment folds those into one attendance, which counts for most in the stretch when you do not yet know what you are dealing with.
The second difference is continuity of the person, not just the file. The consultant who examines you is the one who plans the next step, performs any operation and reviews you afterwards. If you are paying for the appointment yourself, no referral letter is needed to book. If a policy is covering it, contact your insurer before you call us: nearly all of them require a GP referral and a pre-authorisation number, and sorting that out first avoids a delay at the desk.
Your care is led by Mr Debashis Ghosh, Consultant Breast & Oncoplastic Surgeon. He has been a consultant since 2012 and is certified by the European Board in both Breast Surgery and Surgical Oncology. He was previously Clinical Director of Breast Services for the North Central London Cancer Alliance and a Divisional Director at The London Clinic, and he holds an NHS consultant post alongside private practice, which is what keeps a breast surgeon’s caseload broad.
From SW3 the sensible plan is to leave about forty minutes before the appointment: the 137 from Sloane Square to Oxford Circus if the traffic is light, or South Kensington and the Piccadilly line if it is not. Registration is brief. The consultation begins with history and examination, and what happens next is decided there rather than booked for another day.
Imaging is done in the same building. Under forty, that usually means ultrasound first, because denser breast tissue makes mammography harder to read; over forty, mammography and ultrasound are often combined. If a biopsy is indicated it is taken during the same visit with local anaesthetic, and the specimen goes to the laboratory that afternoon. You leave knowing what the examination and imaging showed, with a date for the histology discussion if a sample was taken.
It is the only route with no change, but it runs the long way round the western side of the loop, so allow about twenty-five minutes. Many Chelsea patients find South Kensington and the Piccadilly line to Green Park faster, and the 137 bus from Sloane Square runs all the way to Oxford Circus without a change, which leaves a twelve-minute walk up Regent Street and Portland Place.
Q-Park Harley Street on Queen Anne Mews, W1G 9HF, is the closest underground car park, open twenty-four hours with a 1.82 m height limit. There are also pay-by-phone bays across the Westminster controlled parking zone around Harley Street. Bear in mind that Chelsea is outside the Congestion Charge zone and the clinic is inside it, so the daily charge applies on weekdays between 07:00 and 18:00.

Surgery and any inpatient care take place at one of the private hospitals we work with a few streets away, and your consultant confirms the site when the operation is planned.
