Hampstead is unusual among the areas we serve, because NW3 patients already have major NHS breast services on their doorstep and generally know them well. What they come to us for is not distance — it is a shorter timeline, a named consultant who stays with them, and in a great many cases a considered second view on something they have already been told. A same-day one-stop breast clinic assessment takes about 60–90 minutes from arrival.

Second opinions dominate. Hampstead patients tend to be well informed, and a well-informed patient who has just been given a diagnosis and a proposed operation very often wants that plan looked at again by someone independent before consenting. That is a reasonable thing to want, and it is a formal service here rather than an awkward favour — imaging, pathology and the proposed surgical approach are all reviewed, and you receive a written view you can take back to your treating team.
The second reason is the interval before treatment starts. Where lymph node involvement is being assessed, or where staging investigations are queued behind one another, the waiting is cumulative and each step feels slow. Compressing those steps privately does not change the medicine, but it does change how long you spend not knowing.

No. Seeking a second opinion is a normal and accepted part of cancer care, and it does not affect your NHS treatment or your place on any pathway. Most treating teams expect it. Bring your imaging and pathology reports, or we can request them with your written consent.

There is no Congestion Charge, which helps, but on-site spaces are limited and the surrounding streets are controlled. If you can travel by Overground to Hampstead Heath it is generally the less stressful option, particularly on a day when you may be anxious.
