Two themes come up more often with St John’s Wood and Maida Vale patients than almost anywhere else we see: family history, and implants. Both are addressed below.
Driving is more attractive from St John’s Wood than from most areas because you start outside the Congestion Charge zone — but you cross into it as you come south into W1, so the daily charge applies.

Family history is the most frequent starting point. Someone in the family has been diagnosed, often young, and the question is what that means for everyone else. NHS genetics services will assess and test where criteria are met, but the criteria are strict and the waits can be long. Privately, a risk assessment can be arranged quickly, and if genetic testing is appropriate the result is discussed with a surgeon who deals with the consequences of a positive result day to day — surveillance, risk-reducing surgery, reconstruction — rather than in the abstract.
The second theme is implants. Patients with breast implants, whether cosmetic or reconstructive, need imaging interpreted by radiologists who see implanted breasts regularly, and they need someone competent to assess capsular contracture, rupture, pain or change in shape. That assessment is a defined service here rather than an afterthought.
